Laser Micromachining Solutions

Services

New applications for laser micromachining are continually arising and cover a wide range of outcomes including :

  • Surface treatment: smoothing (annealing) or roughening (improved wear properties via surface relief structures/lubrication grooves)
  • Packaging: location slots and machine vision markers
  • Semiconductors: scribing and cleaving of wafers
  • Security: laser marking micro codes
  • Complex structures: fabrication of delicate and 3D structures
  • Lifetime testing: machining artificial fatigue cracks into test pieces
  • Processing hard materials: polycrystalline diamond, tungsten carbide, etc
  • Quality assurance: calibrated leaks in pharmaceutical products.

Laser Micromachining

Our skilled operators process your components using our laser systems. We also offer additional characterisation such as optical microscopy, 3D optical profiling and scanning electron microscopy.

Contract Research & Development

There are a number of issues underpinning the interaction of lasers with materials. In addition to the laser wavelength, factors such as laser power, beam quality, fluence (power per unit area at the target face), exposure time and heat deposition in the target must also be considered. Laser Micromachining Solutions also specialises in tailoring these parameters to individual processing problems with a view to both rapid prototyping and establishing long term-manufacturing solutions.

Consulting
